The Lotus Flower Nelumbo nucifera in Buddhism

    By admin | April 27, 2009

The lotus flower (Nelumbo nucifera) is one of the most important symbols in Buddhism.
Growing up from the dirt and mud,
the lotus flower is breaking through the surface of the water,
to reach the sun light to blossom.
The meaning is, that everybody, no matter from where one is coming,
will have the chance for enlightenment.
In Buddhism, the Lotus flower is also a symbol for purity
and is often given as an offering.
The number of 3 is a symbol for the 3 juwels of buddhism:
Lord Buddha, the Buddha Dharma/Buddha Dhamma (the teachings of Lord Buddha)
and the Sangha (community of buddhist monks).

All this inspired us to do a muddy photo shooting about that isssue
and it wouldn´t be us, if the result wouldn´t be crazy.
